  • Archives Works To Preserve Terp Football History

     The University of Maryland is in danger of losing one of the most important parts of its athletic heritage - its historical football footage. More than 400 reels of game films, dating from 1946 to 1989, are facing a relentless enemy, chemical breakdown.
  • H1N1 Vaccine Clinics at the University Health Center

    H1N1 Vaccine Clinics will be held at the University Health Center for University of Maryland, College Park, students, faculty and staff under 64 years of age who are at higher risk for 2009 H1N1 because of chronic health disorders (such as asthma or diabetes) or compromised immune systems ONLY, Monday, Nov. 23 at 8:30 am-11:30 am and 1:30 pm-4:00 pm on a first-come, first-served basis. Must bring UMCP ID. The vaccine is free for students; $12 for faculty/staff.
  • Cigarettes Harbor Many Bacteria Harmful to Human Health

    Cigarettes are "widely contaminated" with bacteria, including some known to cause disease in people, concludes a new international study conducted by a University of Maryland environmental health researcher and microbial ecologists at the Ecole Centrale de Lyon in France.
  • TIME Names UM-Led Teleportation Research #6 Among Year's Best Inventions

     Time Magazine has picked as the 6th best invention of 2009 the successful teleportation of data between separated atoms achieved by a University of Maryland-led team of physicists. Time says: "Inching our reality ever closer to Star Trek's, scientists at the University of Maryland's Joint Quantum Institute successfully teleported data from one atom to another in a container a meter away.
  • UM's Academic Rankings Have Depth to Go Along with Lofty Status

    UM is firmly enmeshed among global and U.S. higher education leaders, as reflected in the current Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU) issued by Shanghai Jiao Tong University, a principal barometer of global education standing.
